Protection & Coverage is required for every Riddup reservation unless the applicable Reservation Details expressly state otherwise.
Protection & Coverage requirements, pricing, deductibles, eligibility requirements, Security Deposit requirements, and service availability may vary depending on the Vehicle, Vehicle Provider (“Host”), applicable insurance program, and Reservation Details.
The Protection & Coverage applicable to a reservation will be disclosed before payment is collected.
Protection Overview
Protection & Coverage may include third-party liability insurance and physical-damage protection for eligible Vehicles and Authorized Drivers, subject to:
- the applicable insurance policy;
- the Riddup Rental Agreement;
- eligibility requirements;
- applicable deductibles;
- exclusions and limitations;
- prohibited-use provisions; and
- the Reservation Details.
Protection & Coverage does not guarantee payment for every Accident, Damage claim, theft, loss, or other incident.
The applicable insurance policy controls all insurance-coverage determinations.
Protection Cost
Current pilot rate: $25.00 per rental day
Protection & Coverage is charged separately from the Vehicle rental amount.
Pricing is subject to change. The Protection & Coverage charge applicable to a reservation will be disclosed in the Reservation Details before payment is collected.
The Protection & Coverage charge does not include the Vehicle rental price, Security Deposit, applicable deductible, tolls, citations, fuel or charging shortages, cleaning charges, roadside-assistance charges, Administrative Fees, or other charges disclosed separately.
Third-Party Liability Protection
Subject to the applicable insurance policy, Protection & Coverage may provide up to:
$300,000 Combined Single Limit (“CSL”) in third-party liability coverage
Third-party liability coverage generally applies to covered bodily injury or property-damage claims involving eligible Authorized Drivers, subject to all policy terms, exclusions, conditions, and eligibility requirements.
The stated limit is the maximum potentially available under the applicable coverage and does not guarantee payment of any particular claim or amount.
Riddup does not determine legal fault or insurance liability.
Physical-Damage Protection
Physical-damage protection may be available for eligible Vehicles with an approved value of up to $75,000, subject to the applicable insurance policy and Reservation Details.
Physical-damage protection may be subject to a deductible.
The applicable deductible amount and the Guest’s potential responsibility will be disclosed in the Reservation Details, Protection & Coverage information, or Fee Disclosure before payment is collected.
Physical-damage protection does not necessarily cover every type of Damage or loss. Exclusions, limitations, or reduced coverage may apply, including in circumstances involving:
- unauthorized or ineligible drivers;
- prohibited Vehicle use;
- intentional Damage;
- fraudulent conduct;
- failure to timely report an incident;
- failure to cooperate with a claim investigation;
- mechanical breakdown unrelated to a covered event; or
- other circumstances excluded under the applicable policy.
The exact policy terms control.
Guest Responsibility and Deductibles
If an insurer applies a deductible to a covered claim arising from the Rental Period, the Guest may be responsible for the applicable deductible to the extent disclosed, supported by the circumstances of the claim, and permitted by law.
Protection & Coverage does not necessarily limit the Guest’s responsibility to the deductible.
The Guest may remain responsible, as provided in the Rental Agreement and applicable law, for losses or charges that are:
- excluded from insurance;
- above applicable insurance limits;
- caused by an unauthorized or prohibited use;
- attributable to Mechanical Damage caused by improper operation;
- associated with lost keys, missing accessories, towing, impoundment, or recovery;
- related to reasonable Loss of Use;
- otherwise not paid by an insurer; or
- separately authorized under the Rental Agreement and Fee Disclosure.
The denial or absence of insurance coverage does not by itself eliminate a valid obligation under the Rental Agreement.
Roadside Assistance
Roadside assistance is not automatically included as insurance coverage unless the Reservation Details expressly state otherwise.
Riddup or the Vehicle Provider may help coordinate third-party roadside service when reasonably available.
Roadside situations may include:
- mechanical breakdown;
- flat tire;
- lockout;
- dead battery;
- towing; or
- another roadside emergency.
If assistance is needed, the Guest must contact Riddup or the Vehicle Provider before arranging a service, unless immediate action is reasonably necessary to protect personal safety or prevent additional Damage.
Service availability is not guaranteed.
The Guest may be responsible for roadside-assistance, towing, locksmith, tire, battery, storage, or related charges when:
- the service is not covered by the applicable insurance policy;
- the incident results from the Guest’s conduct;
- the Guest arranges unauthorized services;
- the Reservation Details provide that the service is chargeable; or
- responsibility otherwise applies under the Rental Agreement.
Accidents and Claims
Following an Accident, theft, vandalism, Damage, or other loss, the Guest should:
- Move to a safe location when reasonably possible.
- Check whether anyone requires medical assistance.
- Contact emergency services when appropriate.
- Notify law enforcement when legally required or reasonably requested.
- Obtain a police-report number or report, when available.
- Take clear photographs and videos of the Vehicles, Damage, license plates, surrounding area, and Accident scene.
- Exchange contact, driver, Vehicle, and insurance information with other involved parties.
- Obtain witness information when reasonably possible.
- Notify Riddup as soon as reasonably practicable.
- Notify the Vehicle Provider when instructed.
- Follow reasonable claim and Vehicle-recovery instructions.
- Avoid admitting liability, promising payment, or negotiating a settlement on behalf of Riddup, the Vehicle Provider, or an insurer.
Required Claim Documentation
The Guest may be required to provide:
- driver’s license information;
- reservation information;
- Accident date, time, and location;
- Accident or incident description;
- police-report number or report, when available;
- photographs and videos of the Vehicle Damage;
- photographs or videos of the Accident scene;
- information concerning other involved Vehicles and persons;
- witness information;
- insurance information for other involved parties;
- completed Accident or claim forms;
- towing, storage, repair, or service documentation;
- communications relevant to the incident; and
- other documentation reasonably requested by Riddup, the Vehicle Provider, or the applicable insurer.
The Guest must provide truthful information and cooperate in good faith.
Failure to timely report an incident, preserve evidence, or provide reasonably requested documentation may delay claim processing, affect applicable insurance benefits, or result in additional responsibility to the extent permitted by the applicable policy, Rental Agreement, and law.
Initiating a chargeback or payment dispute does not suspend the Guest’s obligation to cooperate with a claim investigation.
Vehicle Condition and Damage Evidence
The Guest is responsible for reporting Damage, warning lights, mechanical concerns, flat tires, theft, vandalism, or other relevant conditions arising during the Rental Period.
The Guest acknowledges that timestamped photographs, videos, inspection reports, telematics where disclosed, mileage records, fuel or battery readings, repair estimates, invoices, police reports, and other objective evidence may be used to evaluate the Vehicle’s condition before, during, and after the Rental Period.
Failure to report Damage or another material incident may result in additional charges or affect claim processing as permitted under the Rental Agreement, applicable insurance policy, and law.
Security Deposits
Certain reservations may require a refundable Security Deposit or temporary authorization hold before Vehicle pickup.
The applicable amount and payment method will be disclosed before payment.
A Security Deposit:
- is separate from the Protection & Coverage charge;
- is not an insurance premium;
- does not guarantee insurance coverage;
- does not necessarily represent the maximum amount the Guest may owe; and
- may be retained or applied only as permitted by the Rental Agreement, Fee Disclosure, Reservation Details, and applicable law.
Riddup may temporarily delay releasing a Security Deposit while a reported Damage claim, toll, citation, unpaid balance, or other rental-related matter is reasonably investigated.
After Riddup releases an authorization hold, the Guest’s bank or card issuer may require additional processing time before the funds become available.
Identity and Driver Verification
Riddup may require identity, driver’s-license, payment-method, or other eligibility verification before approving a reservation.
Additional verification requirements may apply depending on:
- the Vehicle;
- the Vehicle Provider;
- the proposed Authorized Drivers;
- the applicable insurance program;
- the payment method; or
- the circumstances of the reservation.
Completion of verification does not guarantee reservation approval or insurance coverage.
Only drivers approved by Riddup before operating the Vehicle are Authorized Drivers.
Emergency Assistance
For emergency assistance involving immediate danger or injury, contact the appropriate emergency services first.
For Vehicle-related assistance, notify Riddup or the Vehicle Provider using the contact information included in the Reservation Details.
Guests should not authorize repairs, towing, modifications, or replacement parts without prior approval unless immediate action is reasonably necessary to protect personal safety or prevent additional Damage.
Coverage Limitations
Protection & Coverage is subject to the applicable insurance policy, including all:
- eligibility requirements;
- coverage periods;
- deductibles;
- conditions;
- limits;
- exclusions;
- prohibited uses;
- reporting requirements; and
- cooperation requirements.
Any description or summary provided by Riddup is for general informational purposes only and does not expand, replace, amend, or supersede the applicable insurance policy.
If there is a conflict between this page and the applicable insurance policy, the insurance policy controls insurance-coverage matters.
If there is a conflict regarding the Guest’s rental obligations, the Riddup Rental Agreement and applicable Reservation Details control, subject to applicable law.
